THALIA’S POV
“Kane… please,” I whispered, fighting desperately to keep my voice steady as I stared at him, trying my hardest not to let my tears fall. “Please just talk to me. Please don’t do this to me. Don’t throw everything away without even explaining what changed.”
But Kane looked at me with the same cold, uninterested expression he had worn since waking up, as if my fear and heartbreak meant absolutely nothing to him.
He lifted his shoulders slightly in a casual shrug, and his tone remained annoyingly calm as he repeated, “Thalia, I told you already. You don’t have a wolf anymore. I cannot be with someone who doesn’t have their wolf. That’s the simple truth.”
His words stabbed through my chest like knives. I took a shaky breath as pain tightened my throat. “But I lost my wolf because of you,” I answered, my voice cracking as I pointed at him with trembling fingers. “Iris is gone because I used my magic to save your life. I sacrificed her so you could live. Does that not matter at all to you? Does it mean nothing to you that I lost her for you?”
For a moment, Kane didn’t say anything, and his silence only made the situation feel more unreal.,
I swallowed hard, forcing the words out through the pain in my chest. “Tell me something honestly. Is losing my wolf the only reason you suddenly despise me? Or is there something else that you’re not admitting?” My eyes slowly drifted toward Morgana, who stood beside him pretending she didn’t hear anything, pretending she was innocent.
“So explain it,” I whispered with a trembling voice. “What were you doing with Morgana in the woods? How did you two suddenly end up together like that? Was it a coincidence, or—”
I didn’t even get to finish.
Kane reached out and grabbed Morgana’s hand right in front of me, lifting it gently before pressing a slow, soft kiss to the back of her hand, so intimate that my heart immediately stopped.
My whole body froze like I had turned to stone, the room around me fading as shock slammed into me. And then he placed his hand over her stomach… and caressed it gently with a warmth he had never shown me in that moment.
I stared at them, unable to breathe.
“Kane…?” I whispered weakly, confusion and dread twisting violently inside me.
He looked at me briefly, almost emotionless, and said, “I’m sorry, Thalia. But I’m having a son with Morgana.”
His words hit me harder than any physical blow could have. My eyes blurred instantly, and a tear slipped down my cheek before I could stop it. My entire chest felt like it was being crushed from the inside, and for a few seconds I genuinely forgot how to breathe.
Kane sighed, almost as though he was tired of explaining. “I was waiting for the right time to tell you, but since you’ve lost your wolf, this is the best time to make things clear. You are not fit to be Luna anymore. Morgana will take that role. She will give me an heir—my son.”
I couldn’t move. I couldn’t think. It felt like the world had shattered under my feet, and I was falling into pieces with it. But I still couldn’t cry. The pain was too sharp, too deep to produce any sound.
I simply turned my back to him.
And without a single word, I walked out of the clinic, pushing through the doors with the little strength I had left.
The moment the cold air hit me, everything broke. My breath hitched painfully, and I ran. I ran blindly into the woods, the tears finally pouring down my face in heavy waves as I stumbled over roots and branches. My heart felt like it was tearing apart with every step I took. And through the panic and heartbreak, I reached inside myself instinctively, waiting to hear Iris’s voice.
But there was only silence.
A hollow emptiness replaced the space where she used to be.
That emptiness made me cry even harder as I kept running deeper, not caring about direction, not caring where I ended up. I just needed to get away from Kane, from Morgana, from everything that hurt.
After a long while, the woods around me started to change. The trees grew darker. The branches were thicker. The scent became heavier, and a strange chill crawled across my skin. I slowed down, wiping tears from my eyes as I realized I had entered a side of the forest I had never seen before.
That was when I noticed the blood markings smeared across the tree trunks.
My heart dropped.
I had crossed into another pack’s territory.
Fear rushed through me so quickly that I stepped backward immediately, whispering to myself, “No… no, no…” because I had no wolf, no strength, no way to defend myself if someone caught me here.
Before I could take another step back, a heavy crack came from the shadows.
I turned and a massive black wolf, larger than any wolf I had ever seen, came charging at me with terrifying force. Its paws slammed into the ground, and it closed the distance between us in seconds.
I screamed and stumbled backward, falling onto the dirt as panic surged through me. I scrambled away on my hands, crying and begging, “Please, please don’t hurt me! I didn’t mean to trespass! I swear I didn’t know! Please!”
The wolf skidded to a stop right in front of me, its enormous body looming over mine, golden eyes glowing with authority and rage.
Then, right in front of my eyes, the wolf shifted.
Its form twisted and reshaped until a tall, muscular man stood where the wolf had been. His skin glistened under the moonlight, and his dark hair fell over a sharp jawline. His golden eyes never left my face.
He took one slow step toward me, towering over me as I trembled on the ground.
“Who are you?” he demanded in a deep, commanding voice. “And how dare you cross into my territory?”
I stared up at him, frozen to my bones.
